Cheap Chic Friday is Back Again

Alright - today we have four great Cheap Chic options. The first is a Mossimo ruffled blouse from Target. I personally purchased this the other day and LOVE it. I received quite a few compliments on it already. The shirt looks much more expensive than $20. It is great with a pair of skinny jeans and heels for a night out, or tucked into a pencil skirt for a cocktail party.

Secondly, we have a dress from Forever 21. I adore cap sleeve dresses (very flattering for the arms). In my opinion, this must be paired with flat sandals. The dress is cute, but short. So don't go over the top with heels. Check it out here for $19.

Next, there is this adorable dress from Macy's that is just perfect for tailgates. The crochet lace detail on the bodice is incredible, but not nearly as incredible of it's price of $15!

Lastly, there is this very cute yellow sundress from Dillard's. It's only available in size 7 (thus the super low price), but this is a great steal if you're a size 7. You'd look like you spent a lot more than the $18 it actually cost!

Happy shopping! Come back Monday for our edition on male tailgate wear. It's going to be good!

If Jackie O Were a Chic Deac

I have a feeling that this dress from Nordstrom's is exactly what she would wear. For $82, this dress would last you a long time. It's got a classic shape and the fabric will hold up well. You could wear this to a variety of events, like tailgates, cocktail parties and weddings, etc.

I'd pair it with a pretty pair of wedge sandals, like this pair by Rampage that is available on Endless.com. On sale for $20, these are a great way to dress your feet this summer. The patent leather and small heel make them seem glitzy, while the sandal features will keep your feet cozy. The rose detail adds that something extra special to make your toes stand out from the rest!

Chic Deac Bedroom (Pt. 2)

Alright, Class of 2014 - here is another bedroom decorating idea. The color scheme (obviously) is a black and butter yellow. I started with inspiration from some Springmaid bedding from Target. It's simple and bright, which means it will cheer up your living space without adding too much clutter.

My favorite accent of this bedding is the Daisy pillow embroidery. Just like ruffles and stitched-on flowers are on every shirt at the mall, you can find this adorable detail on bedding as well. The Target website has the bedding on sale this week (for less than $70!). It says the pillow is out of stock, but I saw one in the store just the other day.

The other pieces here are both from Pottery Barn Teen. The dry erase board is actually a wall decal (meaning it will stick to the wall easily, without the mess of trying to hang something up). Think about how helpful this will be - knowing when your homework is due, who you're meeting up with for lunch and when the big game is! The study lamp is also very cute - it's always nice to have a little touch of polka dots.

Speaking of polka dots - check out this amazing border from PB Teen. Getting a few rolls of this would make your room feel so much homier. You could put it mid-level, like a chair rail, or at the top of the room. This is a great way to tie the entire room together.

I adore these monogram initial pillows. Just imagine the black and white one atop the daisy bedding. It would be perfect!

Lastly, I think these wire letters are an incredible dorm room decoration.

Hanging up your entire name might be a bit much, so think about getting one and putting it above your bed. At $15, this is an awesome and cheap way to warm up your blank walls. This is a creative way to display pictures and add another interesting element to your new room!

Rolling the Quad for Skip

Today is the third anniversary of the passing of Wake Forest's great basketball coach Skip Prosser. He was a man who embodied everything great about our institution. His spirit and heart won over the student body. Fashion was important to Skip too - as was said in his funeral mass homily,

"He convinced over 4,000 of us fashion-conscious undergraduates that wearing a black and gold tie-dye t-shirt was and is a rite of passage into the Wake Forest family."

The basketball team is asking everyone in Winston-Salem to meet up on the Quad at 10pm tonight and participate in the trademark Wake tradition - rolling the Quad. Skip loved nothing more than to see students on the Quad after a big win.

We can't wait to see you there tonight, Skip.

Deacs at the Beach (Pt. 2)

Victoria's Secret has this adorable black off-the-shoulder dress that would look adorable thrown over your bikini and paired with a great pair of gold sandals we showed you last week. It's on sale for $29.

If you want to dress it up for dinner after your day at the beach, think about getting this purse from ASOS. The bright yellow is cheerful and the wooden frame gives the crossbody bag a unique look. (Sidenote: The current popularity of crossbody bags is proof that what goes around comes around in fashion). ASOS is a UK company, but they ship to the US for reasonable rates. And at $22, this is quite the steal to begin with!

Croakies

Croakies are a game-day staple for every Wake Forest fanatic. A lot of people wear them in pastel colors, but why not use croakies as a way to display your intense school spirit?

For those of you unfamiliar with Croakies, they are neoprene sunglass holders.

There are already options out in the world (like this pair for $7.95). However, I like to take advantage of any opportunity to personalize something new. Why not order a pair of custom-monogrammed croakies?

There are several websites in the world that do this. Order a black croakie with gold thread. Put in your own initials, WFU or Go Deacs! This would be an adorable way to fit in with the trend and show your pride.

I recommend trying something from The Pink Azalea in Greenville, SC. They ship custom croakies anywhere in the US!

Victoria's Secret Sells Something Besides Bras ...

Like cute sundresses! Check out this find (on sale for $59 right now). The wrap style accentuates the waist, making it very figure-flattering for many different body types. A few things about this dress that really make me like it:

1) It's sold in yellow and black.
2) It looks super comfortable. The jersey fabric means there will be no fidgeting at those long tailgates.
3) It's machine washable, which is very important for those of you who don't have a car to go to the dry cleaners!

Cheap Chic Friday!

Obviously, fashion is tons of fun, but it's no fun if we can't afford to wear stylish clothes. Every Friday morning we will post an incredible outfit that we found for under $30.00.

Today we're kicking off the series with a beautiful black dress and gold statement necklace. The dress, from Forever21, has a great structure to it. I adore the buttons down the front and think the sweetheart top is perfect. What's most beautiful about this dress? The price. This versatile piece is being sold for $12.50 on their website. Check it out here.
The necklace is also from Forever21. The simple silhouette of the black dress will be well-accented with this bold heart pendant. The cutout pattern makes the piece much more eye-catching and it's only $5.80.
Lastly, let's tie together the piece with a beautiful pair of Sandals from Target (Special Note: On Cheap Chic Fridays, we especially pronounce that store in the snooty Tar-jay way). These sandals are on sale for $9.08, but look like they cost a pretty penny.

Today's Cheap Chic total? $27.38. Not bad for such a stylish look!

Chic Deac Bedroom Set

The best thing about the summer before college is the chance to pick out all of the fun accessories for your room. There are one million cute things in all of the stores at this time of the year. I will be posting some stylish sample rooms throughout the next few weeks, along with my tips for a successful start to your time at Wake Forest. Here's my personal belief on where to spend your money in prepping for your new home.

You will have lots of late nights in college (whether it be out with friends or in the library) and getting good sleep is so important. Invest in great bedding and the accessories can be on the cheaper side. Your taste will change throughout the next few years, so make sure the investment pieces are classic. Accessories can always be swapped out. I adore this duvet cover from Pottery Barn. The yellow marigold design makes the bed feel bright and fresh. You want your room to convey a positive feeling every time you walk in - and this will certainly do the trick.

For the black accessories, I've pulled simple black frames and a black/white memo board from Bed, Bath & Beyond. The black frames would look so sleek with some black & white prints. Take your favorite prom picture, shot of your dog, etc. and print it out for a few cents at your local photo shop.
The memo board from BB&B would be wonderful to have up on your wall (although keep in mind you won't be able to use the hanging system). Bring tons of Scotch 3M wall hanging tape and you'll be covered. I used that stuff to hang some really heavy things and it never left a mark on the walls!

Being creative with your storage is key when you are maximizing space in your room. These bins will be great for shoes, purses, school books, snacks, etc. These bins from Target add a cute yellow accent to match the bedspread.

Lastly, low-lighting is an important purchase you should make. Fluorescent lights are not my thing. If you'd like some softer lighting in your room, you should look into a lamp like this one from Target - for only $17!
Happy shopping!

Fridays are Cheap Chic

Friday is Cheap Chic day -- so check back tomorrow for an entire stylish outfit under $30.00!

Rainy Days Go Away

To all you frosh Demon Deacons reading Chic Deac -

You may not know it yet, but rain boots are about to be your most prized possession. Mother so Dear floods like crazy when rain falls from the sky. Per usual, Wake students find a way to make even the rainiest days a fashion show.

The umbrella below has a "Singing in the Rain" feel to it and I can already envision it being carried around campus this year. The hook handle gives it that perfect final touch! $40.00 is well-worth it. Trust me when I say that you will use it!

My personal belief about rainy days is that you should stay inside, curled up with a book. But obviously we all need to leave at some point to grab food at the Pit or head to class. When you have to go outside, wear bright colors to cheer yourself up. The bright yellow of these wellies is the perfect pick-me-up for a rainy Wake Forest day!

Anthro Tailgate Outfit

Check out this darling sundress from Anthro. It may be $98.00, but think about all the ways you could wear this! It would be beautiful with some cowboy boots at a tailgate or imagine it with a black cardigan for class or church. With the raffia rose black belt also for sale on their site, this would be the quintessential Wake Forest outfit!

Tailgate Footwear

Tailgate footwear is obviously very important for those long game days. Comfort is key, but so is being stylish. I'm more of a sandals girl for tailgates, but there are those who are brave enough to put on a great wedge. Below, we have options for both of those types of girls.

The first shoe is a black and gold Steve Madden sandal. I actually purchased these a few weeks ago, unfortunately before they went on sale, but now I can report that these are great shoes. I have been wearing them all around Winston - on the Quad, on 4th street, to the mall. They help to dress up a more casual outfit and I can't wait to wear them for one of the fall tailgates. You'll have to forgive the berry shade in the picture - the black and gold is a great combo. This week, they are on sale for $24.99 at Macy's.

The second pair is for those who are brave enough to wear some tall shoes for three hours of tailgating and then three hours of football. This is an espadrille from Target. The ruffle detail adds the perfect feminine touch.

The last shoe is another Target item that I am currently loving. Target can be hit or miss, but sometimes it's like striking gold. From the Miss Trish of Capri line, this sandal is modeled after a piece of coral. It has a pearl and starfish on them, which ups the cute factor. These shoes look much more expensive than $24.99, so get them while you can!

Happy shoe shopping!

Yellow Skirts Make me Happy!

Check out these two equally awesome yellow skirts. For a school spirited look, I would happily wear either of these with a simple black tank top and a statement necklace. On other days, they'd be great to wear to class.

The first skirt is from Anthro. It's made of poplin which means it will keep you cool at those hot September day games. It's going for $68.00 on the website - which is totally worth it since Anthro makes a great product.

The second skirt is on sale from Dillard's for $40.80. I love the embroidery details on this skirt and think it's just perfect with a pair of sandals.

Send in your own cute tailgate ideas!

Welcome to Chic Deac!

Don't know what to wear to tailgates this fall? Chic Deac is here to give you some outfit inspiration. It's always been fun to be a Wake Forest fan, but now it's fashionable too!

Check out this first look. At $89.50, this dress from Macy's is a steal. It is the type of dress that you can wear for four seasons of tailgating. It's cute, black and basic. No one will know it's a repeat outfit if you dress it up with different accessories each time.

For this look, there is a perfect J.Crew ring that was destined for the hand of a Wake Forest gal. It's $55.00, but if that is out of your price range, there are bound to be some beautiful imitations of it around.

The first game this season is a Thursday night game. Evening is the perfect tailgate weather - warm enough to wear your sundress, but not so warm that you get burned. However, you should definitely tote a cute summer scarf around in case that evening chill gets to you during the 4th Quarter. I am loving this one from Old Navy - on sale this week for $5.97!

Start shopping for those tailgate outfits now, because the first game will be here before you know it!
