Buy This, Not That

Today we're going to start out a new feature where we show you high priced items and find a comparable, more affordable version. Everyone on Wake Forest's campus has seen Jack Rogers sandals. A pair of these often run a little under $100. I love the style of them and think they're great for church on Sundays, tailgates and even class. However, I've had some friends who've ruined theirs over the years by wearing them to events like Carolina Cup in the mud.

If you still want the preppy look, without the big price tag, Target has a very similar pair of sandals made by Merona. For only $20, they are quite the steal. This pair won't last as long as a Jack Rogers pair, but you won't feel as guilty walking through mud or having a beer spilled on them.
Happy shopping, and remember, there are only 2 more days to nail down the perfect tailgate look!

Two Thursday Tailgate Options

Ladies, it's going to be a hot one on Thursday. We're looking at 90 degrees, so let's dress for the weather.

This black ruffle wrap dress from Ann Taylor Loft is sleeveless and a cotton blend - which means it will give you lots of room to breathe. I love this dress for so many different occasions, and Thursday night would be one of them! Check it out here, on sale for $50.

Secondly, I like the casualness of this dress from Victoria's Secret. It comes in a variety of colors, but obviously, I think the black is best. It's jersey fabric and Alessandra Ambrosio makes it look like a very breezy piece, which will be great for the hot weather. Check it out here for $65.

We can't wait for Thursday. See you there, Deacs!

Cheap Chic Friday

Check out this dress from Forever 21, for only $25. The spaghetti straps make it summery, but the neckline isn't too revealing. The waist emphasizes the tiniest part of a woman's body, so this is a very flattering look. It's perfect for a summer evening!

The Yellow Hues of Paris

We love this series of 9 pictures from Paris. Called "It Just Happened," all of the pictures feature a yellow highlight found in the City of Lights. Sold here on Etsy for $36, we think this could be a very chic feature in your home, apartment or dorm room.

The seller is also producing these "Sweetness and Light" prints which are inspired by the famous gothic rose windows at Notre Dame. This is also a great gift if you know anyone who has studied abroad or wants to study abroad in Paris. Check it out here for $26.

The Sun is Out!

It's like the weather gods heard me blogging about the rain yesterday, and answered my prayers with one of the most beautiful days Winston has seen in a long time! The sun is shining, there is a light breeze, a blue blue blue sky and little humidity.

Celebrate the day with a beautiful yellow top, like Kate Spade's marigold Chelsey sleeveless silk top. It' s a splurge, but a beautiful day like this deserves a beautiful outfit. I'm currently hunting down the skirt in this picture, because I would love one of those for a cocktail party!

Enjoy the weather and check back in later today for our post on Paris!

The First Day of Class and it's Raining ...

I warned you back in July about rainy days at Wake Forest. I hope you took my advice and picked up some rainboots this summer. If you didn't, Target on University and over at Hanes Mall have plenty. Check out our post on rainy days here.

If you're looking for a cute rain coat, look no further. This fantastic trench is a London Fog design from Macy's. The buckles and buttons are my favorite part of this trench. The belted waist will make you look itty-bitty - it's a universally flattering form. Check it out here for $100.

If you aren't up for the leopard heels like the model wearing the coat, some cute bright rainboots might do the trick. Both pairs, from Endless, could arrive in your mailbox by tomorrow morning. They offer free overnight shipping and it's worked perfectly for me every time I've used it. I like the plain yellow ones, but the polka dots add an extra fun touch. The polka dots are $45 and can be found here.
The yellow boots below are $70, but I love the buckle detail. Check them out here.

Lastly, here are two other accessories that would top off your rainy day look. A blanket and a Wake Forest mug filled with some hot tea will be the perfect accessories for your afternoon nap.

First Day of Class Look

In honor of tomorrow being the first day of class, we decided to put together a cute look for you. It's time to impress those profs with your smarts and good fashion sense.

The foundation of the outfit is this white dress. From Dillard's it's only $30 and I think well worth your money. There are so many different ways to dress this one up that it can be used to look like many different outfits.

I'd top it with an unbuttoned yellow cardigan, like this one from Nordstrom's.

Finish the look off with a belt around the waist such as this one from DKNY.

Today is your last day to win the earrings. Enter to win by scrolling to the bottom of the blog and clicking "Follow." The winner will be selected tonight and announced tomorrow morning!

The Perfect Outfit for our Earrings

Want to win these earrings? We're picking one lucky reader to win them tomorrow. How do you enter to win? It's simple. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click to "follow" us.

What would you wear with these earrings when you do win? Well we've got a chic, simple outfit that can help show off the delicate beauty of our Chic Deac giveaway. This cute ruffled top from New York & Co. would frame your face perfectly. For only $15, it's quite a steal.

Paired with these white jeans from Revolve Clothing.

Lastly, we'd throw on these simple and summer chic sandals from Endless.com for $34.

Oh, the Perfect Tailgate Outfit

We've found it. The perfect tailgate dress is here. The white top, the yellow belt at the waist and the black and white seersucker skirt was just made to be worn to a Wake Forest tailgate. Better yet, the dress is only $35.

Throw it on with a pair of espadrilles, like this pair from Pink Studio.

Cheap Chic Friday

Today's under $30 outfit is perfect for all of the orientation events going on or the Hitchcock movie out on the lawn of Reynolda House tonight.

Check out this adorable skirt from Forever 21. The black embroidery on the skirt is great and the yellow tank below from Nordstrom's brightens up the look.

Chic Deac Bedroom (Pt. 3)

Check out this alphabet art. You can spell any word and test out the look of it in their demo feature. We tried Wake and thought it would be perfect for your house or dorm room!

Check it out here.

If Jackie O Were a Chic Deac (Pt. 2)

The Chic Deac obsession with Jackie O is kind of intense, so please be prepared for the constant oohs and ahhs over her style. The Jewelry Box has decided to recreate her most famous pieces of jewelry (with less expensive materials) in a new line and it has made me so happy to know that this exists.

The first piece is based on an early 19th century French brooch that was passed down through the Bouvier family. Eventually it was made into a necklace, and Jackie had earrings made to match in 1960. Look at this piece here for $149.

Next, we adore this bracelet that JFK gave to Jackie O. This would be perfect with a basic black shift and some heels. It's being sold for $139 here.

Lastly, we want this watch so badly. It's got a classic look, but it's especially perfect for any Wake Forest fan. The tank watch was never well known until Jackie bought one in 1964 and made the style famous, so follow in a great woman's footsteps and get it here for $129.

And of course, Jackie O would have had a pair of these earrings if Wake Forest alum and Etsy seller pendredkeller28 had been making them back then. Win them for free - check out this post to see how!

Chic Deac Giveaway!

Etsy seller pendredkeller28 is a Wake Forest alum who handcrafts and sells gorgeous jewelry. We have absolutely fallen in love with these Floral Black Onyx earrings from her Etsy shop. We can't even begin to list the millions of Wake Forest events these would work for ... oh the possibilities.

Fortunately for all of you Chic Deac readers, someone is winning a pair for free this week! So, you ask, how can I win these earrings from Chic Deac? It's easy - just follow us. At the bottom of this blog, you can choose to "follow" Chic Deac. Out of all our followers, someone will randomly be selected to win the earrings.

Follow us and these earrings could be yours!

Chic Deac Giveaway

Chic Deac has some gorgeous earrings that we'll be presenting tomorrow so check back for the update.

As always, please send us pictures of you and your friends sporting your black and gold fashionably.

Chic Deac Dorm Room (Pt. 3)

Pottery Barn has this gorgeous yellow painterly paisley duvet cover on sale for $70. Keep in mind that your college bed fulfills many purposes: it's your desk, your dining room table and your sofa. I can speak from personal experience with a PB duvet - they last forever, wash really well in college dorm dryers and it was always easy to remove stains.

Urban Outfitters has some really great accessories for rooms. First, let's cover the area rug. Every room needs a rug. The tile floors are way too cold to walk on in the morning, so invest in a good rug. This will get a lot of wear and tear - in my experience they can last two years if you take good care of them. Check out this yellow chenille rug from Urban for $40.

I love this pillow, for $24 from Urban Outfitters, and think it would be perfect with this one we had previously blogged about. Put them together with this duvet and you'll have the cutest bed on campus.

Also, this alarm clock has a lot of charm. It would make waking up for an 8am class much easier!

Lastly, let's talk about a wall monogram. This is a perfect dorm room decoration because it isn't too heavy and it doesn't cause any wall damage. I'd order the circle one (pictured below) in black or yellow. There are a ton of color choices, but obviously we like the black and gold best!

One week until move-in day on campus!

Chic Deac at the Office

In case you've got an important meeting or interview coming up in the near future, check out this outfit we've pulled for you. It's a great way to look pulled together while also showing your Wake Forest pride. The first item makes the outfit - this Whirl & Wind cardigan from Anthropologie has such perfect details. I'd wear it with a simple cami and the next item.

This skirt is from Ann Taylor Loft. Made of silk and cotton, this is a great skirt for summer or fall. It's $70 right now, but surely there will be a Loft sale somewhere near you in the near future.

To top it off, I'd get a simple black kitten heel like this Calvin Klein Diema Pump from Endless.com. If you haven't tried Endless yet, you need to! They ship OVERNIGHT for FREE. Returns are free too in case it hasn't worked out. One time, I ordered a pair of shoes from them at 7:00pm for a meeting the next morning. They were in my mail box at 8:00am. It was shoe magic.

Wine Glass Winner and the Infinite Love Bracelet

Congratulations to Brighid Jensen on winning our custom painted Wake Forest wine glasses. Brighid is an alum of the university and we know she'll display the wine glasses proudly! Don't be sad if you didn't win the wine glasses. You can buy your own pair right here on Etsy!

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming: Paired with a black dress at tailgates or just worn with jeans and flip-flops on your way to class, this bracelet is a perfect way to fashionably display your pride in the Old Gold & Black. I love the simplicity of the design. The infinity charm is gold dipped and the actual bracelet is made of Irish linen. It's from dogeared.com and $70 -- so put it on your birthday wish list!

It would look great with this top from Macy's (on sale for $20) which I love for one of the brisker tailgates in October or just going out on a weekend.

Happy shopping, Chic Deac fans! Remember to send in any tips or fun styles you see while you're out. Our e-mail address is chicdeacstyle@gmail.com!

Things to Bring to Class

Wake Forest girls love their Tervis Tumblers - that is for sure. You see them in class, in the library, in the room, at the tailgate, etc. This week, the Wake Forest ones are on sale at Bed, Bath & Beyond in Winston. Bring in one of those 20% off coupons and you can get one of these for $8! Or you could buy them online at Sports Authority.

By the way, in case you didn't know this yet, BB&B will be on campus this year for move-in day.

Cheap Chic Friday

I am loving this outfit for several reasons, but mainly because the entire thing costs less than $25. The shirt, from Lord & Taylor, costs $15. The applique trim creates enough of a statement that you wouldn't need to wear any big jewelry with this outfit.

These shorts, from Talbot's, are less than $10. Yes, less than $10. Really, truly less than $10. Talbot's isn't just your grandmother's shop anymore. Michelle Obama wears things from there and you can too. There are some older pieces, but these shorts are not one of them. These are the kind of shorts you can wear on a summer evening (or to an orientation event) and look stylish, while still feeling comfortable. They are available in all sizes and multiple colors, but yellow is obviously our fave.

Remember to enter the wine glasses drawing. There are no strings attached, just some beautiful Wake Forest wine glasses custom painted for you. Enter by clicking here!

So let's do the math here. For $25 dollars, you could get a shirt from Lord & Taylor, shorts from Talbot's and two free wine glasses from "The Cute Glass." That sounds like quite a deal to us here at Chic Deac. Remember to send us your thoughts and suggestions at chicdeacstyle@gmail.com!

Tailgate Outfit #758450945084058

At Chic Deac, we're officially in countdown mode to the first tailgate of the year. In case you were wondering where we stand, it's around 28 Days and 7 hours. In case you were wondering why we post so much about tailgates, it's because we love football season at Wake Forest.

So, are you ready for game day? This outfit will ensure that you are. I know what you're thinking: Again with the ruffles? I can't help it. It's too cute. This is a great dress. The v-neck and ruffles will make you stand out against the crowd of strapless black dresses. Buy it here from Revolve Clothing.

Pair it with this yellow crossbody purse from Macy's and you will be the most stylish fan out there. It's on sale right now, so check it out here.

Remember that we've got a few more days until the drawing for the winner of our custom wine glasses. They are adorable, so check out this post and remember to enter the contest. The winner will be announced on Tuesday!

Ruffles are In

It's true. They're everywhere. There are two types of ruffles: ruffles that are right and ruffles that are wrong, wrong, wrong. The line between the two types? It's fine, my friends.

This cute dress from Piperlime is ruffles done right. I can see someone wearing it a tailgate with sandals, or dressing it up for a night out in Winston with some cute heels.
