We can Wear White!
We don't really pay attention to that rule, but we'll celebrate the ban on white being lifted with the Horkelia Shift from Anthropologie and Tory Burch's Julianne wedges.
Hope you had a lovely Memorial Day Weekend, chic ones!

More Warm Accents for Your Dorm Room
Everyone will have a floor length mirror that they bought from Target or Bed Bath & Beyond, but why not add a warm touch to your room with this gold oval mirror from IKEA? It's a classic piece that you'll be able to find a home for in the years to come.
Ikea, $80 |
Invest in some Scotch 3M wall hooks and make it the nice silver ones. The white plastic work well, but they don't do much in terms of warming up your space. If you have the time (and it's only May right now, so you DEFINITELY have the time) take 10 minutes to sand the hook and spray paint them gold. This will make your hooks unique from everyone else on the hall.
Wondering what you are going to hang on those hooks? How about a monogrammed waffle robe like this one from Bed Bath & Beyond. Trust me, a robe is a great investment for the college years - along with shower shoes, but we'll get to those later.

What Would They Wear?
What would the ladies of Sex and the City wear if they were a Chic Deac? This question popped into our minds a few weeks ago so we did some looking around and found some looks for each of the ladies.
Ms. Charlotte York has a classic glam look about her and we thought of her immediately when we saw this 1960s vintage dress on Etsy. With her big Jackie O sunglasses, she'd wear this dress like it was always meant to be worn. You know Charlotte would be rocking her pearls at every tailgate and arrive with baked goods in tow.

Ms. Miranda Hobbes is always the conservative dresser. She works in a law firm and perhaps had the more masculine style (and personality) in the earlier seasons. However, Pat Fields began to pay her some attention by the end of the series and most certainly when the movies arrived. She loves the belted look and it suits her well, by cinching in the waist and adding a more professional touch to a draped dresses like this one on the left. This Natori dress is perfect for her red hair, fair skin and professional setting.
Ms. Samantha Jones always has a preference for what's short, tight and plunging when it comes to clothing. However, she really does like to color coordinate and pick solids. Her accessories are always the most matchy-matchy out of the crowd, which is funny considering how unplanned her, um, liaisons are. We could definitely see Ms. Jones rocking this dress from Milly.
The grand finale obviously has to be Ms. Carrie Bradshaw. Carrie's style was what made the fashion on this show stand apart from everything else out there. Prior to SATC, we'd seen Charlotte, Miranda and Samantha's looks somewhere else. Carrie was sweet, yet pushed the line just enough. She'd put on this gold dress without question and probably match it with the same red patent heels she has on in the photo on the left. Plus, she'd love to max out her credit card on its $500 price tag.

Marigold Madness on Young Sophisticates
Young Sophisticates found some seriously amazing pieces, all inspired by Kirsten Dunst's Chloe marigold dress she wore last week in Cannes. We haven't liked Kirsten Dunst since the days of Little Women, and even then she was quite the brat who burned Jo's book and stole Laurie from her (we're not bitter about it or anything). Perhaps she is turning over a new leaf these days, because we like what we see!

Rifle Stationary Preview
Email, blogging, and texting are part of Chic Deac's daily life, but really there is nothing better than a handwritten note on some crisp looking stationary. Apparently last week was the National Stationary Show (which we'd like to be invited to in the future, just think of all the beautiful papers and prints) and Rifle Paper Co. debuted this new collection which we adore for obvious reasons. The gold foil adds a special touch, but we love how each card is a commentary on communication in general. They're just lovely and we may have to order a pack when they go on sale.

How Flattering
Yes, we realize they probably meant WFU CHICK, but they're one letter short, so we'll accept it as an homage to Chic Deac. We're honored.
Chic Dorm Room
We know packing for college can be incredibly stressful, but it can also be super fun to plan out your chic room. All summer long, we'll be posting dorm room style suggestions and ideas. Note that when decorating your room, it's all about cheery colors and warm accents. This will make your room everyone's favorite place on the hall. Don't go to lax on the accessories, or else it will feel bare. And if you overdo it, your place will be too stuffy for hanging out and watching Glee.

Madonna to Middleton
Is there anything more summery than white lace? Jessica Baker, from Who What Wear, wrote up a trend report on white lace and we love how she captures the fabric - from Madonna at the MTV Video Awards (aka Lady Gaga now) to Kate Middleton - she talks about how any girl can rock white lace. Personally, we're a big fan of the French Connection dress featured above!

A Little Luck for '11
The Class of 2011 graduated this morning and we can't help but feel sad at the thought that they're leaving Wake Forest. We hope they do amazing things in the world and that they always proudly claim Mother, So Dear as their alma mater. We wish them luck in all that they do - so a little horseshoe necklace in honor of their new post-grad experiences.

Graduation Gift Ideas
Parents, family and friends of Class of 2011 grads - check out some of Chic Deac's gift ideas for graduation. Graduation is such a bittersweet time, but you can make it all the sweeter with some great gifts that will help the new alums keep Wake Forest in their hearts forever.
Demon and Deacon wine from the Reynolda Village Deacon Shop would be an excellent choice. We once saw someone write a personalized note on a wine bottle in metallic paint pen. This makes the bottle a keepsake in itself and a great accessory (or vase) for a post-grad apartment.
This monogrammed Max & Chloe necklace won't break the bank, but it will be appreciated as a classic gift. Get it in 14k gold to remind them of Mother, So Dear.

A classic tote is a great gift for any woman entering the working world, but why not have a Wake Forest twist with black and gold hues? We love the dipped leather look on this tote and think that it's a worthy investment. A Tory Burch tote will surely last your grad a while, or at least until they have a bigger paycheck to buy their own replacement.
Everyone has to write thank you notes when they receive gifts, and what better to write it on that customized Lilly stationary?

Hair Ties
How adorable are these hair ties on Etsy? They have this perfectly casual look to them ... perfect for a long braid.
Posties 2K11
North Myrtle, here we come! The forecast doesn't say super great things about the weather for this weekend and the few days afterwards (high 70s and thunderstorms, ugh) but we are excited to get some time in at the beach even if we are in a sweatshirt or rain jacket. Just in case we do get a warm moment at the beach, we're hoping we can wear this new J.Crew cover up:
The evenings are looking a little bit chillier than we'd like, but Pirate's Cove gets so sweaty that we won't notice a thing until we're standing in line at Hot Diggity Dog.
