YT Clothing Contest Results

We had so many incredible entries this fall for the YT Clothing Contest ... our readers are incredibly chic and stylish in their black and gold. Choosing a winner each week was no easy task, but we finally arrived at finding 5 stylish Wake Forest fans to enter into the random drawing. We assigned each of them a number in the order that they won.

Then we used an online random generator to determine an outcome.

Which was ...

Congrats to Jordan Fashimpaur, a freshman, who has been a regular reader of Chic Deac this fall. Here is her winning picture, from the very first game of the season.

Jordan, expect to hear from Chic Deac about getting your free YT Clothing Contest dress. Thanks to everyone who participated and remember to check out YT Clothing online if you are looking to buy yourself a consolation prize!

Wake Forest Football

Ladies and gentlemen, Wake Forest football is back in action. What an awesome game on Saturday - fun tailgates, perfect weather and winning over a ranked Florida State. Could we have asked for a better day? Below, we link to two of our favorite Wake sports articles in recent memory - although now that we're thinking about it, they may be the only positive Wake Sports articles written in recent memory.

Courtesy of the AP/Washington Post
When you come into a situation where things haven't gone all that well, there's a tendency to find reasons to complain about everything. If you do that, it filters down to everyone in the program. And it doesn't do any good to complain anyway.

Florida State is not as good as many of us had expected, and Wake Forest is much, much better.

Remember to send in your tailgate pictures for the YT Clothing Contest. We've already gotten some submissions and we must say, our readers only get more stylish as the season goes on.

YT Clothing Contest!

The fall clothing contest to win an adorable dress from YT Clothing continues. We are still debating about buying the strapless Katie dress or Lindsay with long sleeves - or maybe both. This week's winner Erin Kerr is convincing us to get the long sleeve dress - who can resist it when it's paired with cute wedges and a foot pop?

Congratulations to Erin who joins Jordan (below on Family Weekend) in our fall raffle for a free YT Clothing dress. Remember to send us your pictures from tomorrow's tailgate if you want a chance to win one of YT Clothing's gorgeous dresses.

Sideline Style: Yours Truly Clothing

Chic ones, we are very excited to announce a new partnership with Yours Truly Clothing (YT Clothing) for this upcoming fall semester. Yours Truly is a brand new clothing line which is built around the idea that you can show school spirit, while still looking cute. Their beautiful dresses are great game day basics. They disguise sweat stains (Thank God someone thought of this) and are meant to be accessorized in a variety of ways. We've heard from several dress testers that the product is FABULOUS and we can't wait to get our hands on one.

Lindsay DressBlack

The best part that we haven't yet mentioned, is that the founder of YT has a very special Wake Forest connection. Jennifer Skinner and Katie Skinner Farrar are the mother and sister of Wake Forest alum and standout quarterback Riley Skinner. Wake Forest is near and dear to their hearts as they watched their son/brother lead us to winning an ACC Championship and the Orange Bowl.

We expect to see these lovely women on campus in the coming months and hope that you will support their beautiful line. We are going to give one of our lucky readers a dress at the end of this season. How can you win? By sending in pictures of you and your girlfriends dressed in black and gold. Each week, we'll select a winner for the best dressed Deac. At the end of the season, Jenifer will help Chic Deac select their favorite look. That person will win a beautiful YT Clothing dress!

Football Flop?

Wake Forest Syracuse Football

Talk on campus this morning about last night's game has Chic Deac slightly concerned. There were way too many Facebook statuses lamenting the start of what many seem to think will be another terrible season. We recognize that the fourth quarter was a disaster, but we saw incredible improvement from last year. It would be good of us Wake Forest fans to show appreciation for the growth we saw in our players. Tanner Price was SO much better last night and we can only hope his knee injury heals quickly. Keep supporting the Deacs and our team will keep up the good work!

Tailgate Time

Ladies and gentlemen, the countdown is on. We are officially less than one month away from the most wonderful time of year - the first home game of our Wake Forest football season. Here's hoping that it's infinitely better than last season ... but at this point everything's got to be better than basketball, right??

When it comes to football, we don't mind if people wear their Screamin Demon shirts or choose to dress up (in black and gold, no pastels please). Obviously, we prefer the dressing up to the t-shirt look, but either works. We'll be posting some tailgating outfits throughout the next few weeks for guys and girls. For a good laugh, take a look at this post on What White Chicks Cherish about dressing up for football games.

For a good tailgate dress, check out this sunny yellow number from Urban Outfitters. On sale for $39 - pretty good deal! And the strapless sweetheart cut will help avoid those nasty tan lines we all tend to get in the student section.

For the Wake Football Fan in Your Life ...

Thank you to the reader who sent in this gift idea. Asgard Press is a company which produces yearly calendars from old athletics posters and programs. This year, they have a Wake calendar for the very first time. Each image is actually perforated, so you can frame them.

We are loving the look of these images and can't wait to order one. Check them out here for under $20!

Soapbox

This blog was never intended to be a soapbox, but there are two issues at hand which we at Chic Deac feel the need to (briefly) address:

1. Senior Fifth
It's never chic to be blackout, puking in the tailgate lot while trying to drunk dial your ex-boyfriend to see if he made it to his tailgate. Keep it classy, seniors.

2. We're Not Good
Football last won a game against Duke. Basketball lost to Stetson (who??) on Friday night. We're aware that our major teams are not playing well. This is not the time to give up wearing your black and gold or attending games.

One of my friends on the football team once told me that the saddest part of a losing game isn't the actual loss. It's heading over to the student section to sing the alma mater with your peers and seeing that no one cared enough to stay for the end. So try showing your support because they're working hard. We're terrible fans if we can only be there to celebrate the wins. Support our teams and coaches.

Stepping off the soapbox now ...

Stay Warm and Beat BC

The season, believe it or not, is actually redeemable. If the Deacs get a win on Saturday, they can still work hard towards a bowl game. Is it far off? Absolutely. Should we be there, even in the cold, to help see them through a tough season? Absolutely.

It's looking like tomorrow's high is 50 degrees. That isn't very high. So how do you dress for a chilly afternoon game and tailgate? It's easy. Put on some cute jeans, your favorite pair of boots, a black sweater and one of these gorgeous outerwear pieces. Don't forget the sunglasses. They add a touch of fabulous!

First up is a $120 coat from Steve Madden's line for Macy's. This is a very sweet look and we love the toggle buttons.

Second in our list of stylish assortment of coats is this ruffled piece from Old Navy. All outerwear is 50% off at Old Navy this week only (or so the manikins told me in the 15050984 commercials they play a day).

Anthro, as always, can be counted on to have some gorgeous old gold pieces. We love the details around the waist on this "Alice in Autumn" sweatercoat. You might need an extra layer to keep you warm enough, though!

Lastly, this Harvested Honey coat from Anthro has a vintage look that is quite timeless. It's certainly up there in cost at $498, but one can dream, right?

Happy shopping, chic ones! We need to cheer on those football boys. Nothing will brighten up their season like a full student section filled with black and gold!

Homecoming Dresses

A few readers asked us for some ideas for homecoming dresses this weekend, and obviously, we're not talking about the kind you wore in high school. Homecoming dresses at Wake come in two forms: the casual wear with boots at the tailgate kind and the wear to the fraternity formal kind. Since our requests weren't very specific, we'll offer a few options.

We really like this Puella dress from Bluefly.com because it's got lots of color and a fun print, but you still get the overall black and gold scheme. The long sleeves will keep you warm in the fall weather, but the ruffled v-neck cut will still let you show some skin.

This Tommy Hilfiger cowl neck dress from Macy's is beautiful. It's a sweater dress, but it's cut well enough so that it doesn't look chunky on the body. Pair it with a belt and boots just like the Macy's stylist did in this picture and you're set for a fun day of tailgating.

Now for the dances that take place after the game, you might want to think about something with sheen like this walnut cocktail dress from Forever21. The low price makes it affordable for a last minute purchase and you won't cry if someone spills a beer on  your dress. This is the kind of dress that needs to be dressed up with the right accessories, so don't forget to add some!

Lastly, we love this "Tea for Two" cocktail dress from Nordstom's. It looks like someone pulled it right out of Blair Waldorf's closet and we're quite happy if we can pull off a night looking like her.

But, obviously, no Blair Waldorf look is complete without a headband. We couldn't forget that, so check out this one on Etsy.

Happy Homecoming, chic ones!

TODAY IS THE DAY - It's Time for the Real Deal

Ahhh, Football is finally here! Check out the Journal's article on our readiness as a team to take the field tonight. As the article says, it's time for the real deal and we couldn't agree more. We want to see this team take the field and surge past any expectations for their season. And in the spirit of real deals, we're going to have Cheap Chic Friday one day early.

It's definitely going to be a hot one, and I hear that Athletics will be handing out free water bottles to make sure we're comfy and hydrated for the duration of the game. Here are some last minute (under $20!) deals on tailgate outfits:

The first dress is from Roxy. I actually really love the fact that this can be a halter or a strapless dress. Think strapless when you're in the sun so that you avoid the tan lines, that pull up the straps for a different look if you go out after the game. It has a small polka dot pattern, but nothing that overwhelms your shape. Check it out here for $20.

Secondly, here is a dress from Alloy that has some cute gold detailing on top. The cotton fabric will keep you cool tonight! Look at it here, again for less than $20.

We have another dress from Alloy. This shape is flattering to many different body types and this can be personalized with a variety of gold accessories. Click here to see it on the Alloy website!

Lastly, this might be the most coveted accessory in the stadium tonight.

GO DEACS! Make us proud!

Buy This, Not That

Today we're going to start out a new feature where we show you high priced items and find a comparable, more affordable version. Everyone on Wake Forest's campus has seen Jack Rogers sandals. A pair of these often run a little under $100. I love the style of them and think they're great for church on Sundays, tailgates and even class. However, I've had some friends who've ruined theirs over the years by wearing them to events like Carolina Cup in the mud.

If you still want the preppy look, without the big price tag, Target has a very similar pair of sandals made by Merona. For only $20, they are quite the steal. This pair won't last as long as a Jack Rogers pair, but you won't feel as guilty walking through mud or having a beer spilled on them.
Happy shopping, and remember, there are only 2 more days to nail down the perfect tailgate look!

Two Thursday Tailgate Options

Ladies, it's going to be a hot one on Thursday. We're looking at 90 degrees, so let's dress for the weather.

This black ruffle wrap dress from Ann Taylor Loft is sleeveless and a cotton blend - which means it will give you lots of room to breathe. I love this dress for so many different occasions, and Thursday night would be one of them! Check it out here, on sale for $50.

Secondly, I like the casualness of this dress from Victoria's Secret. It comes in a variety of colors, but obviously, I think the black is best. It's jersey fabric and Alessandra Ambrosio makes it look like a very breezy piece, which will be great for the hot weather. Check it out here for $65.

We can't wait for Thursday. See you there, Deacs!

Let's Hear it for the Boys

Chic Deac has been focusing a lot on the ladies recently (with the exception of our croakies post, which can be found here) and we wanted to give the guys an idea of what to wear when September 2nd rolls around. Guys' outfits are much more basic and easier to find, but there is still an opportunity to be stylish.

Let's start with the very basic item: the shirt. As long as it's black and gold, you really can't go wrong. The first shirt is for the preppier crowd - a yellow oxford from Ralph Lauren. It's on sale for $60 on the website, but if you visit your nearest Polo Outlet, I bet you can find it for around $40. These shirts last forever. You can dress them up with a sport coat, or wear them to class with your Rainbows.

The next shirt is a Cutter & Buck black polo from the Deacon Shop. The website is selling them for $50, but some Chic Deac Spies said they are on sale right now at Hanes Mall. Remember, a black polo could get very hot in the September sun. This would be great for the first game (oh, evening tailgates, I love you) or some of the chillier October/November games.

Another option (and really my favorite) is just a plain ol' Wake Forest t-shirt. It's the comfiest option and you can make it look as preppy or understated as you want. The Deacon Shop has this basic tee on sale for $10.

Now, khaki shorts are always a good option. But, if you want to really show off that tan you worked so hard for this summer, I recommend these white club shorts from J.Crew. They are on sale for $40. White is crisp and fresh - it will make your look stand out a bit from the sea of khaki shorts.

Now on to your accessories. Let's talk about sunglasses first. There are two types of people in this world: those who lose and break their sunglasses constantly, and those who manage to hold onto a pair for a long time. I am the first type of person, so I can't let myself invest in a pair of sunglasses. It will just be that much more painful when they go. If you are one of those people who manage to hold on to them, then I have a great investment piece for you. These Ray-Ban Wayfarers are being sold for $119. I love the tortoise shell look and anyone who was at a Wake Forest tailgate last year can tell you that Wayfarers were all the rage.Obviously, a basic baseball cap is a good find. It keeps the sun out of your eyes and prevents some ugly sunburn from forming on those hot September afternoons. Check out this Wake Forest Football hat from the Deacon Shop. For $16, this will last you a while.

Your last accessory is an easy and cheap find. Get a Wake Forest koozie! No one needs to see a red cup when we are playing Stanford or NC State. Koozies are all over campus. Last year, Student Government, Student Union and the 1834 campaign were giving away koozies left and right. Check out the Student Activities Fair or look at the bookstore. Here is a pack of two being sold on Ebay for $8.

Now you're set to tailgate and cheer on Mother, So Dear!
