To Geed or Not to Geed? That is the Question ...

Oh we've been avoiding this question forever because everyone has an opinion on tie dye. Some hate it, some love it and some could simply care less. We also have a nagging feeling that our regular readers fall on the "HATE IT" side of the fence, and we simply have to disagree. But, since a friend who interns in Athletics told us that tonight is the most important game of the season, we're going to self sacrifice here.

Tie Dye isn't pretty or fashionable. We're entirely aware that it's the ugliest combination of our school colors. Actually it's not even really our school colors - it's black and bleed your eyes out gold. No one looks good it in it - whether your tan, pale or in between.

BUT, looking good is not the point of tie dye. You are supposed to make the opponents' eyes literally bleed from the pain of looking at our section. We are the intimidation factor in the Joel. So let's step it up and sacrifice our fashion conscious attitudes tonight when the Deacs take on Iowa at 7pm.

So here is Chic Deac's final verdict on tie dye: Go ahead, Wake Forest. Put your frat pastels aside for one hot second and wear something ugly. Surely, your awesome, fratty reputation will be able to withstand the momentary geedness.

For Dad

Dad is easy to please. He's not high maintenance and anything related to Wake Forest will make him happy (because he went here or just because you go here, either way).

We like this logo tie because it's got the WF logo without being overwhelming - subtle and classy, just like your dad.

If there is any one item that defines the style of a dad - it's got to be a vest. Who wears vests besides Dads? Check out this Cutter & Buck one from the Deacon Shop.

If your Dad is a historian - give him the recently published History of Wake Forest University: Vol. V as a Christmas gift. He'll love to read more about the background on this great institution. Plus, it's written by Provost Emeritus Ed Wilson (yes, the guy who Shorty's named the Mr. Wake Forest burger after) so he's bound to love it! Check it out here.

A simple WF logo belt, like this one, is always a good idea for Dad. He'll love wearing it to games throughout the year.
If Dad is looking for something cool for his office, maybe you should consider getting him a replica Wake Forest football helmet. This will be a conversation piece and another opportunity for him to bring you up to all of his visitors! Check it out here

Or perhaps you could get him one of these awesome panoramic shots of BB&T field or the Joel. Pick his favorite sport, or if you're feeling generous, get both!

Soapbox

This blog was never intended to be a soapbox, but there are two issues at hand which we at Chic Deac feel the need to (briefly) address:

1. Senior Fifth
It's never chic to be blackout, puking in the tailgate lot while trying to drunk dial your ex-boyfriend to see if he made it to his tailgate. Keep it classy, seniors.

2. We're Not Good
Football last won a game against Duke. Basketball lost to Stetson (who??) on Friday night. We're aware that our major teams are not playing well. This is not the time to give up wearing your black and gold or attending games.

One of my friends on the football team once told me that the saddest part of a losing game isn't the actual loss. It's heading over to the student section to sing the alma mater with your peers and seeing that no one cared enough to stay for the end. So try showing your support because they're working hard. We're terrible fans if we can only be there to celebrate the wins. Support our teams and coaches.

Stepping off the soapbox now ...

Rolling the Quad for Skip

Today is the third anniversary of the passing of Wake Forest's great basketball coach Skip Prosser. He was a man who embodied everything great about our institution. His spirit and heart won over the student body. Fashion was important to Skip too - as was said in his funeral mass homily,

"He convinced over 4,000 of us fashion-conscious undergraduates that wearing a black and gold tie-dye t-shirt was and is a rite of passage into the Wake Forest family."

The basketball team is asking everyone in Winston-Salem to meet up on the Quad at 10pm tonight and participate in the trademark Wake tradition - rolling the Quad. Skip loved nothing more than to see students on the Quad after a big win.

We can't wait to see you there tonight, Skip.
