Chic Deac Dorm Room

Filigree Leaf Sheets from Anthro will give your dorm room that bright and cheery feeling you need to warm up the space, which will feel like a blank canvas when you first walk in.

PB Teen Customized Makeup Organizer will be a cute way to keep all of your makeup and toiletries organized, which prevents it from looking like an assortment of junk when that cute boy in your bio class comes over to study.

This monogrammed bulletin board will fit right in at Wake Forest. The Pottery Barn one shown below is on sale for $74, but remember that bulletin boards and memo boards are also a very easy DIY project. Stay tuned for a post in the very near future!

Chic Deac Dorm Room (Pt. 3)

Pottery Barn has this gorgeous yellow painterly paisley duvet cover on sale for $70. Keep in mind that your college bed fulfills many purposes: it's your desk, your dining room table and your sofa. I can speak from personal experience with a PB duvet - they last forever, wash really well in college dorm dryers and it was always easy to remove stains.

Urban Outfitters has some really great accessories for rooms. First, let's cover the area rug. Every room needs a rug. The tile floors are way too cold to walk on in the morning, so invest in a good rug. This will get a lot of wear and tear - in my experience they can last two years if you take good care of them. Check out this yellow chenille rug from Urban for $40.

I love this pillow, for $24 from Urban Outfitters, and think it would be perfect with this one we had previously blogged about. Put them together with this duvet and you'll have the cutest bed on campus.

Also, this alarm clock has a lot of charm. It would make waking up for an 8am class much easier!

Lastly, let's talk about a wall monogram. This is a perfect dorm room decoration because it isn't too heavy and it doesn't cause any wall damage. I'd order the circle one (pictured below) in black or yellow. There are a ton of color choices, but obviously we like the black and gold best!

Chic Deac Bedroom Set

The best thing about the summer before college is the chance to pick out all of the fun accessories for your room. There are one million cute things in all of the stores at this time of the year. I will be posting some stylish sample rooms throughout the next few weeks, along with my tips for a successful start to your time at Wake Forest. Here's my personal belief on where to spend your money in prepping for your new home.

You will have lots of late nights in college (whether it be out with friends or in the library) and getting good sleep is so important. Invest in great bedding and the accessories can be on the cheaper side. Your taste will change throughout the next few years, so make sure the investment pieces are classic. Accessories can always be swapped out. I adore this duvet cover from Pottery Barn. The yellow marigold design makes the bed feel bright and fresh. You want your room to convey a positive feeling every time you walk in - and this will certainly do the trick.

For the black accessories, I've pulled simple black frames and a black/white memo board from Bed, Bath & Beyond. The black frames would look so sleek with some black & white prints. Take your favorite prom picture, shot of your dog, etc. and print it out for a few cents at your local photo shop.
The memo board from BB&B would be wonderful to have up on your wall (although keep in mind you won't be able to use the hanging system). Bring tons of Scotch 3M wall hanging tape and you'll be covered. I used that stuff to hang some really heavy things and it never left a mark on the walls!

Being creative with your storage is key when you are maximizing space in your room. These bins will be great for shoes, purses, school books, snacks, etc. These bins from Target add a cute yellow accent to match the bedspread.

Lastly, low-lighting is an important purchase you should make. Fluorescent lights are not my thing. If you'd like some softer lighting in your room, you should look into a lamp like this one from Target - for only $17!
Happy shopping!
