2010 was an incredible year and we have much to be thankful for here at Chic Deac. We love our readers and the fact that so many of you check in on a regular basis. We're looking forward to a fantastic 2011 filled with fun memories, improved friendships and of course - an ever more spirited student body at Wake.

We Asked, and They Listened ...
Back in August we posted here about some lovely wall art ideas for the home of any Demon Deacon fan. Someone on Etsy was listening, because here we have Wake Forest alphabet art - using campus architectural features as the letters! This is pretty thrilling news for us here at Chic Deac.
Check them out here on Etsy!

What would Wake be without the charming city of Winston-Salem around us? We're enjoying this cute print - and it's no coincidence that the heart is right above Wake Forest University.

If Jackie O was a Chic Deac
She would undoubtedly sport gold sequins on this tweed jacket from Kate Spade. Can you say perfection??
Our posting will be slower over the holiday season, and we'll try to post about something that doesn't sparkle later in the week.

Chic Deacs in Tieks
Tieks flats are a stylish, comfortable and portable new shoe brand that you must know more about. These flats are perfect for you grad Deacs who might be working in the city and refuse to wear ugly shoes to make your walk home more comfortable, or any Deacs who are abroad and refuse to wear sneakers for fear of being spotted as an American.
They easily fold up and away in a little storage bag and each pair even comes with a pair of pants clips which will help your longer hemmed pants from dragging on the pavement. We love the gold and black pairs (obviously), but also adore some of the snakeskin prints.
You can learn all about the makeup of their shoe and purchase your own pair here on their website. Happy tieking, chic ones!

Lighten Up Your Look with Gold
We are loving the gold sparkly dresses available for New Years this year. Glitter is always acceptable on that night - just keep the accessories toned down and basic so that you don't overdo it!
This Milly dress is simply gorgeous - we love the bow waist and think the short sleeves keep it modest enough for you to show some leg. Check it out here - but beware, it's a pricier dress at $360.
Rachel Zoe herself picked out this subdued sparkling gold dress from Greylin. It's available on Piperlime for $118. It feels very Reese Witherspoon, no??
Nordstrom's has this gorgeous nude off the shoulder dress with sequins. Buy it here!

LLDs (Little Lace Dresses)
Lace is in - so check out these cute options below:
This lace shift dress from Nordstrom's would flatter any figure and look amazing with some nude pumps. The see through sleeves show off your arms without baring it all, so check it out here.
If you're looking for a gold touch of lace, you can find it here from Milly. Some black tights and heels (a la Blair Waldorf) will make this look perfect.
How about a taupe lace dress with a skinny black belt to emphasize the waist? Taupe isn't exactly gold, but we think it will pass as a Wake Forest look. Buy it here from Nordstrom's.
Lastly, you can be the ultimately future trophy wife in this deep v lace dress. Can you say hostess with the mostest?

Ring in 2011 like a True Chic Deac
New Year's Eve is always a fun opportunity to glam things up. Large amounts of glitter and shorter hemlines can be proudly worn on this day. To simplify your NYE shopping, we found a fun dress in several price ranges. Remember to celebrate to the fullest and be safe! And listen to the Auld Lang Syne version from the Sex and the City soundtrack (the first one, because we obviously all want to pretend the second never happened) for a sentimental moment before 2010 departs.
This nude dress from Forever 21 has the perfect gold shimmer that will draw all eyes towards you on NYE. Play it up with some shimmery accessories. At $20, you won't mind if a fellow party goer spills a little champagne on your dress.
This Black Truffle dress does tiered fabric the right way. We hate it when tiered fabric adds volume in unwanted places, but this is so perfectly draped that your figure will still look stunning. Gold accessories are a must with this beautiful dress, so check it out at Spotted Moth for only $40.
In case you are in the mood to be the most stunningly fashionable woman in the room on New Year's Eve, you should check out Zara's tulip dress in black. The silhouette is AH-MAZ-ING. At $169, we think this is classic enough that you can defend its cost.
Happy midnight kissing, chic ones!

Dress Like T Swift ...
Celeb Chic is back with the Taylor Swift edition to celebrate her budding romance with Jake Gyllenhaal. One of T.Swift's go to looks seems to be the gold sequin dress - so she's an obvious pick to inspire the Chic Deac legions. Surely her Alice + Olivia original must have cost several hundred dollars.
However, we think we've found a good (and chepaer) backup for your closet. From Dillard's, this dress comes in at just under $100!
Check it out here. Happy studying, chic ones!

Thank you to the reader who sent in this gift idea. Asgard Press is a company which produces yearly calendars from old athletics posters and programs. This year, they have a Wake calendar for the very first time. Each image is actually perforated, so you can frame them.

For Your Friend who is Always Cold ...
We are loving this modern take on the opera coat. The opera coat is a classic, but can only be reserved for the most special of events. This version will suit you during the day, at work, on your way to class or in the evening on a fun date. The two gold buttons are just a perfect touch. Plus, it's only $50 from Fred Flare!
There's nothing like a bright, cheery mug that will keep your hot tea warm on a day like this. Besides, the colors make it the perfect Wake Forest mug!
Nothing finishes off a cute look like a vintage scarf. We are loving this Diane Von Furstenberg one available on Etsy for only $25.

We nearly hit ourselves when we realized we forgot to post these awesome pants sent in by Chic reader Lauren Hubbard ('09). For Your Glam Mom
Loren Hope has some insanely gorgeous jewelry, but we are particularly in love with two of their necklaces.
The Sophie Bib Necklace is simple and could be worn with a great white collared shirt and fitted skirt to work or a casual cocktail party. At $75, it's an affordable gift for Mom.
If your mom really wants to amp up the style quotient, it's time you look to the Gracey Bib Necklace. We love this look and think it's fit for a style star. At $160, it's a pricier, but gorgeous gift idea.

To Geed or Not to Geed? That is the Question ...
Oh we've been avoiding this question forever because everyone has an opinion on tie dye. Some hate it, some love it and some could simply care less. We also have a nagging feeling that our regular readers fall on the "HATE IT" side of the fence, and we simply have to disagree. But, since a friend who interns in Athletics told us that tonight is the most important game of the season, we're going to self sacrifice here.
Tie Dye isn't pretty or fashionable. We're entirely aware that it's the ugliest combination of our school colors. Actually it's not even really our school colors - it's black and bleed your eyes out gold. No one looks good it in it - whether your tan, pale or in between.
BUT, looking good is not the point of tie dye. You are supposed to make the opponents' eyes literally bleed from the pain of looking at our section. We are the intimidation factor in the Joel. So let's step it up and sacrifice our fashion conscious attitudes tonight when the Deacs take on Iowa at 7pm.
So here is Chic Deac's final verdict on tie dye: Go ahead, Wake Forest. Put your frat pastels aside for one hot second and wear something ugly. Surely, your awesome, fratty reputation will be able to withstand the momentary geedness.

For Your Friend Who Reminds You of ...
You know when you're watching a movie or tv show and the person on the screen reminds you exactly of your BFF? Well we've got the gifts that will help you find something wonderful for your girlfriends this holiday season.
For Elizabeth Bennett
On Etsy, these beautiful vintage necklaces hold the perfume of the wearer for a little daytime dab or are the perfect holder for a little note to remind them of how much you appreciate your friendship. This feels very Jane Austen if you ask us, so maybe give this to the girl who can't stop watching Pride & Prejudice.
For Charlotte York
We always loved the Carrie necklace on Sex and the City, but that's something only a Carrie could pull off. If you have a friend who is more of a Charlotte, then think about getting her this gorgeous monogrammed Max & Chloe necklace.
For Kim Kardashian
For Kim Kardashian
Kim Kardashian has a sweet personality, but a style with a slight edge. Perhaps a friend like her would love a black satchel with chain straps, like this one from Nine West.
For Blair Waldorf (or one of her minions)
Blair's look would be incomplete without the sophisticated headbands she always manages to pull off. For your prim and proper friend (maybe with a mean streak) we recommend thisheadband from Etsy. Just tell her it came from Paris, or else.

For Dad
Dad is easy to please. He's not high maintenance and anything related to Wake Forest will make him happy (because he went here or just because you go here, either way).
We like this logo tie because it's got the WF logo without being overwhelming - subtle and classy, just like your dad.
If there is any one item that defines the style of a dad - it's got to be a vest. Who wears vests besides Dads? Check out this Cutter & Buck one from the Deacon Shop.
If your Dad is a historian - give him the recently published History of Wake Forest University: Vol. V as a Christmas gift. He'll love to read more about the background on this great institution. Plus, it's written by Provost Emeritus Ed Wilson (yes, the guy who Shorty's named the Mr. Wake Forest burger after) so he's bound to love it! Check it out here.
A simple WF logo belt, like this one, is always a good idea for Dad. He'll love wearing it to games throughout the year.

Or perhaps you could get him one of these awesome panoramic shots of BB&T field or the Joel. Pick his favorite sport, or if you're feeling generous, get both!

Soapbox
This blog was never intended to be a soapbox, but there are two issues at hand which we at Chic Deac feel the need to (briefly) address:
1. Senior Fifth
It's never chic to be blackout, puking in the tailgate lot while trying to drunk dial your ex-boyfriend to see if he made it to his tailgate. Keep it classy, seniors.
2. We're Not Good
Football last won a game against Duke. Basketball lost to Stetson (who??) on Friday night. We're aware that our major teams are not playing well. This is not the time to give up wearing your black and gold or attending games.
One of my friends on the football team once told me that the saddest part of a losing game isn't the actual loss. It's heading over to the student section to sing the alma mater with your peers and seeing that no one cared enough to stay for the end. So try showing your support because they're working hard. We're terrible fans if we can only be there to celebrate the wins. Support our teams and coaches.
Stepping off the soapbox now ...

Buy This, Not That
Looking at the J.Crew magazine lately thinking, "I want you, but I can't have you" is no fun. We love their taffeta bow monde dress and have been searching for a cheaper substitute. We think we've found it! It's not strapless, but it really is a beautiful alternative and no one will ever know it's from Forever 21. In the same color family and sporting an awesome bow, you're bound to get compliments in either of these dresses. The J.Crew dress retails for $100 and the Forever 21 version is just $33.
