Anthro Spring Looks

We're mainly looking at dresses because that's the best thing about spring. And remember a wise Chic Deac will always buy pretty spring dresses that make for suitable tailgate attire in the fall.

Wake Forest Football

Ladies and gentlemen, Wake Forest football is back in action. What an awesome game on Saturday - fun tailgates, perfect weather and winning over a ranked Florida State. Could we have asked for a better day? Below, we link to two of our favorite Wake sports articles in recent memory - although now that we're thinking about it, they may be the only positive Wake Sports articles written in recent memory.

Courtesy of the AP/Washington Post
When you come into a situation where things haven't gone all that well, there's a tendency to find reasons to complain about everything. If you do that, it filters down to everyone in the program. And it doesn't do any good to complain anyway.
-Jim Grobe from The Washington Post

Wake Forest
Florida State is not as good as many of us had expected, and Wake Forest is much, much better.

Remember to send in your tailgate pictures for the YT Clothing Contest. We've already gotten some submissions and we must say, our readers only get more stylish as the season goes on.

Sideline Style: Yours Truly Clothing

Chic ones, we are very excited to announce a new partnership with Yours Truly Clothing (YT Clothing) for this upcoming fall semester. Yours Truly is a brand new clothing line which is built around the idea that you can show school spirit, while still looking cute. Their beautiful dresses are great game day basics. They disguise sweat stains (Thank God someone thought of this) and are meant to be accessorized in a variety of ways. We've heard from several dress testers that the product is FABULOUS and we can't wait to get our hands on one.

Lindsay DressBlack

The best part that we haven't yet mentioned, is that the founder of YT has a very special Wake Forest connection. Jennifer Skinner and Katie Skinner Farrar are the mother and sister of Wake Forest alum and standout quarterback Riley Skinner. Wake Forest is near and dear to their hearts as they watched their son/brother lead us to winning an ACC Championship and the Orange Bowl.

We expect to see these lovely women on campus in the coming months and hope that you will support their beautiful line. We are going to give one of our lucky readers a dress at the end of this season. How can you win? By sending in pictures of you and your girlfriends dressed in black and gold. Each week, we'll select a winner for the best dressed Deac. At the end of the season, Jenifer will help Chic Deac select their favorite look. That person will win a beautiful YT Clothing dress!

Chic Crochet Sundress

How chic and simple is this crochet hem sundress from The Gap? Pair it with heels or a great pair of sandals for a stunning look. The best part of the outfit might just be the price: $34.95.

Today's Giveaway: Emma Graham Designs

Thank God that some smart people have finally tapped into the market we've been blogging about since July! Emma Graham Designs has absolutely gorgeous clothes and a story that is quite fun. Two best friends from the Boston area, Emma Mahon and Jackie Graham, went to separate colleges (Babson College and University of South Carolina) and felt there was a niche in the fashion industry for college aged women who needed well-priced and well-made clothes. From tailgates to date functions to cocktail parties, we know EXACTLY what they're talking about. After graduating, they moved to NYC to start this new line.

They're coming to Wake on Monday, yes this upcoming Monday, to showcase some of their best looks in a Carolina Cup Trunk Show. We are excited to announce that we are partnering with Emma Graham to give away one of their dresses from the Spring/Summer 2011 collection. The giveaway will come later, but for now RSVP to the event on Facebook and stay tuned for more details.

Also - wanted to add a quick note that Emma Graham has a Wake Forest campus rep. Katie Estes can be reached at info@emmagrahamdesigns.com so get in touch if you want a private party or have more questions!

Wake Forest Travel Mug and Coozie

This is a really cute pattern that allows you to stylishly wear the famous WF logo. The coozie is cute, but we really love the travel mug. Seems like a good stocking stuffer if you ask me!

Happy sipping, chic ones!

No Freaking Way

Wake Forest pasta. When we're old enough to have an awesome tailgate with non-Busch Light beverages, we will serve Wake Forest pasta salad. And when we're old enough to have kids, our kids will consume Wake Forest macaroni and cheese. It's expensive, but the true Demon Deacon fan would be happy to invest.

Happy carbo-loading, chic ones!

Homecoming Dresses

A few readers asked us for some ideas for homecoming dresses this weekend, and obviously, we're not talking about the kind you wore in high school. Homecoming dresses at Wake come in two forms: the casual wear with boots at the tailgate kind and the wear to the fraternity formal kind. Since our requests weren't very specific, we'll offer a few options.

We really like this Puella dress from Bluefly.com because it's got lots of color and a fun print, but you still get the overall black and gold scheme. The long sleeves will keep you warm in the fall weather, but the ruffled v-neck cut will still let you show some skin.

This Tommy Hilfiger cowl neck dress from Macy's is beautiful. It's a sweater dress, but it's cut well enough so that it doesn't look chunky on the body. Pair it with a belt and boots just like the Macy's stylist did in this picture and you're set for a fun day of tailgating.

Now for the dances that take place after the game, you might want to think about something with sheen like this walnut cocktail dress from Forever21. The low price makes it affordable for a last minute purchase and you won't cry if someone spills a beer on  your dress. This is the kind of dress that needs to be dressed up with the right accessories, so don't forget to add some!

Lastly, we love this "Tea for Two" cocktail dress from Nordstom's. It looks like someone pulled it right out of Blair Waldorf's closet and we're quite happy if we can pull off a night looking like her.

But, obviously, no Blair Waldorf look is complete without a headband. We couldn't forget that, so check out this one on Etsy.

Happy Homecoming, chic ones!

Item of the Week - This One's for the Boys

In the spirit of men's week here on Chic Deac, our Item of the Week is for them. Dapper Duds is a tie company created by college students.

Looking for jobs in a post-collegiate world made them realize that the stuff that would get them the job (quality suits and ties) were actually very pricey, they were inspired to create quality, low-cost ties. The result is beautiful, and better yet, they specifically make them in school colors. One of the founding partners is Greg Jokl, a current Wake Forest student.

Three lucky Chic Deac readers will be winning ties next week - one of each of their signature styles. Check them out below and find out how to win the ties at the very bottom! The first style is the Signature Plaid. This tie is different than the usual tie seen out there in the world of work. It is available here on the Dapper Duds site.

The second is the wide stripe black and gold tie. It's classically styled and would be great for any tailgate. It can be found here on the Dapper Duds website.

Lastly, we really love the Dapper Stripe black and gold tie. This style is perfect for work and would look good on any man. Check it out here.

Now, how do you win one of these Dapper Duds ties for yourself or your man? Submit a picture of you wearing black and gold. It's super easy and you could get a free tie out of it! Send your entries to chicdeacstyle@gmail.com!

Real Men of Wake Forest

Today is part two of our week focusing on menswear here at Chic Deac. Check back tomorrow for our Item of the Week - a special gift for our male readers (or boyfriends/husbands/brothers of our female readers). Chic Deac took a visit to the Deacon Shop in Reynolda Village and found some especially Wake Forest-y looks for men.

We actually especially like these pants, but they've simply got to be worn on the right occasion by the right guy. Only a certain type of super preppy/fratty/metrosexual guy can pull off this kind of look. It just isn't for everyone - so ask a friend if you are the type of person who can pull it off.

We're loving the assortment of ties they have over there. Wear it to a tailgate (if you're that kind of tailgater) or the office. It's a simple and easy way to show your pride in Mother, So Dear.

Lastly, a word to the wise on sweater vests. They are appropriate in two occasions only: if you are over the age of 50 or playing golf. Worn off the golf course, this look ages people who are too young to wear it. But a Wake Forest polo? For any guy at any time.

Happy shopping, men of Wake Forest!

Presbyterian Tailgate Winners

Here's a collection of last week's tailgate photos from the game against Presbyterian. Send in your Duke tailgate pictures this week for a chance to win a prize next Friday afternoon. This week's winner is announced at the very end. They get a $10 Simply Yummy gift certificate!

And the winner is - the first picture, sent in by Chiara Singleton, a senior at Wake. Keep sending in your pictures (chicdeacstyle@gmail.com) and YOU could be our next winner.

Cheap Chic Friday

Cheap Chic Friday is back again, just in time for the Duke game this weekend. Francesca's is a store in the Thruway Shopping Center - they have a wide array of dresses, but we are particularly liking this $20 dress. The flowers add a nice touch and so does the crochet detail (just make sure you're wearing enough sunscreen so that doesn't become the world's weirdest tan line). Buy the dress here or at the store in person!

The cotton will keep you nice and cool. Game day weather is looking good, so enjoy your tailgate and all four quarters!

Buy This, Not That

Continuing in our new tradition of "Wear This, Not That" posts where we post more affordable versions of some of our favorite designer duds, we have decided to do a post on the LBSD. Oh my gosh, you say, am I that out of it that I don't know a fashion acronym? No, not really. It's just something new we came up with here at Chic Deac - it's the Little Black Shirtdress. Look at the picture below. Which of these is nearly $300 and which is only $25?

The dress on the left, from Rebecca & Drew is a $285 dress. It's gorgeous, and custom made, but that's a very expensive shirt dress. The version on the right is from Target and is only $25. We love both of these looks, but cheap works for us!

Happy shopping and remember to send us your tailgate pictures TODAY! We have a lot of entries, but could always use more! Chicdeacstyle@gmail.com
