We've Reached the Big 3-0-0

Dear Chic Ones,

Thanks for reading frequently enough to keep us inspired to reach the big 300 post milestone. 300 may not actually be a milestone, but we feel like maybe it means we've moved on from our amateur stage. We're continually surprised by how many of you are reading up on fashionable finds for the Wake Forest fan - sometimes multiple times per day (you know who you are and you should also know we love you for it).

It has been a long year for Wake Forest sports, and therefore Wake Forest spirit. We're hopeful that the future looks brighter. By hopeful, we sort of mean that it couldn't possibly get worse. We knocked on wood after typing that last sentence, because the hits have certainly kept on coming.

We're certainly not done posting and look forward to a much more spirited (and winning) year ahead. This has been an incredible amount of fun for us and that's largely because you keep coming back to see what we have to share. We've been so lucky to have you and hope you've felt slightly luckier to have our blog in your life too!

xoxo,
Chic Deac

Wake Forest Bag Tags

The Mission of Good Hope trip takes Wake Forest students to South Africa to perform service work and spread the good name of Wake Forest across the world. The crew going this May has come up with some really creative ways of fundraising their trip, including these awesome bag tags made by Meredith-Leigh Pleasants, a junior and the president of Kappa Delta sorority.

You can order a plethora of cute bag tags which will help you mark your luggage and spot it from far away at baggage claim, on this Google Form. Meredith-Leigh was kind enough to make a custom tag for Chic Deac readers. We love the design! For $8, this custom bag tag can be yours. Just think - you'll be doubly spreading the good name of Wake Forest by sporting school colors on your luggage and sending an awesome group to South Africa. Learn more on their Facebook Page!

Today's Giveaway: Emma Graham Designs

Thank God that some smart people have finally tapped into the market we've been blogging about since July! Emma Graham Designs has absolutely gorgeous clothes and a story that is quite fun. Two best friends from the Boston area, Emma Mahon and Jackie Graham, went to separate colleges (Babson College and University of South Carolina) and felt there was a niche in the fashion industry for college aged women who needed well-priced and well-made clothes. From tailgates to date functions to cocktail parties, we know EXACTLY what they're talking about. After graduating, they moved to NYC to start this new line.

They're coming to Wake on Monday, yes this upcoming Monday, to showcase some of their best looks in a Carolina Cup Trunk Show. We are excited to announce that we are partnering with Emma Graham to give away one of their dresses from the Spring/Summer 2011 collection. The giveaway will come later, but for now RSVP to the event on Facebook and stay tuned for more details.

Also - wanted to add a quick note that Emma Graham has a Wake Forest campus rep. Katie Estes can be reached at info@emmagrahamdesigns.com so get in touch if you want a private party or have more questions!

Tie a Yellow Ribbon

Dear Chic Ones,

It is Tie a Yellow Ribbon week on campus. Every time you see a yellow ribbon or balloon, remember that sexual assaults occur on this campus, just like everywhere else in the world. Say a prayer for the survivors of sexual assault.

If you are interested in being involved with a group who works to prevent sexual assault here on campus, please attend one of the Tie a Yellow Ribbon events this week. Thanks to everyone in PREPARE who has worked tirelessly to make this a week which will open our eyes to the reality and presence of sexual assault on campus.

Sincerely,
Chic Deac

Senior Wine Tasting

Chic Deac received an e-mail from a reader asking us to help define "dressy casual" for all of the seniors planning on attending the wine tasting this weekend. There's a basketball game against UVA right after the event, so it's important to be in black and gold. Here's our take on the event's dress code:

1. Jeans are totally okay - just make sure they're dark wash rather than light and have no rips or tears. We like these cropped skinny trousers from Gap (if you can keep your ankles warm enough!).

2. Think a cute flowy blouse like this one from TopShop paired with a structured blazer like this one.

3. Heels are definitely a do for this event, or super cute flats if you have them!

4. Don't be afraid to do some fun, bold jewelry for this event. Or one of the headbands we showed you last week!

Day 3

You're almost there. Hang on! You can do it. Keep your chin up and enjoy these Day 3 looks. This first dress is pricey at just under $400, but it's got some personality and the cut is very nice.

NO IMAGE

The second look is a beautiful yellow dress from Milly. We think it's great and will surely help you stand out. This shade of yellow works on simply every skin tone, so you're bound to look great.

Now on to some less expensive, but equally flattering looks ... The beads on this dress give it a unique look, but it's still very stylish. Plus at $36, who can resist??

We love this lace dress - but beware, it will only look good on girls with tan or olive complexions at this time of year. Being one blob of a color is not a good look for anyone. Only $23 at Forever 21.

Lastly, this chain link dress from Forever 21 is a cute look for Day 3. Plus we love the exposed back zipper!

Happy 2011

2010 was an incredible year and we have much to be thankful for here at Chic Deac. We love our readers and the fact that so many of you check in on a regular basis. We're looking forward to a fantastic 2011 filled with fun memories, improved friendships and of course - an ever more spirited student body at Wake.

We Asked, and They Listened ...

Back in August we posted here about some lovely wall art ideas for the home of any Demon Deacon fan. Someone on Etsy was listening, because here we have Wake Forest alphabet art - using campus architectural features as the letters! This is pretty thrilling news for us here at Chic Deac.

Some Love for Winston

What would Wake be without the charming city of Winston-Salem around us? We're enjoying this cute print - and it's no coincidence that the heart is right above Wake Forest University.

If Jackie O was a Chic Deac

She would undoubtedly sport gold sequins on this tweed jacket from Kate Spade. Can you say perfection??

Our posting will be slower over the holiday season, and we'll try to post about something that doesn't sparkle later in the week.

Lighten Up Your Look with Gold

We are loving the gold sparkly dresses available for New Years this year. Glitter is always acceptable on that night - just keep the accessories toned down and basic so that you don't overdo it!

This Milly dress is simply gorgeous - we love the bow waist and think the short sleeves keep it modest enough for you to show some leg. Check it out here - but beware, it's a pricier dress at $360.

Rachel Zoe herself picked out this subdued sparkling gold dress from Greylin. It's available on Piperlime for $118. It feels very Reese Witherspoon, no??

Nordstrom's has this gorgeous nude off the shoulder dress with sequins. Buy it here!

Happy sparkling, chic ones!
