DIY Lacy Gold Chain Necklace

Good news, y'all: Chic Deac is alive and well. Just had to take a mental break from posting while taking an actual break from Wake Forest. But we are back!

The first day of class is here and we're already looking for a craft project that will distract us from the mounds of homework that will surely pile up over the next few weeks. We found this adorable DIY lacy gold chain necklace on Pinterest and we are eager to try and replicate it. Who doesn't need a fabulous statement necklace on a budget?

You can find the instructions here

Style Inspiration: Black Onyx

Black onyx is a beautiful gemstone and it's best accented by gold - leaving us with plenty of chic, Wake Forest themed jewelry. Here's some style inspiration for you this week:

The Matchbook Girl

Are you reading Matchbook Magazine? It's an online only magazine and we can't seem to get enough. Six issues in and we're addicted. It's like they can read our minds or something. For example, this Kate Spade necklace:

If you are wanting more than the monthly dose, follow Matchbook on Facebook or Twitter. They also have a fabulous blog called The Daily Spark. They are always asking fun questions and talking about the Matchbook Girl - which always describes us perfectly. It kind of ruins your sense of individualism, but who really cares when they are pointing you in the direction of such pretty things??

Bows Galore

Chic Deac loves a good bow - there's nothing more endearing and whimsical in our opinion - but sometimes it's hard to rock a bow and look your age. You want to wear it without looking like you did when you were eight. We put together a fun Pinterest board over the past few weeks with some of our favorite mature ways to incorporate bows in your style. Some of our favorites are below and you can check out the whole board here.

Sipping on Cocktails

Doesn't this outfit look like it deserves to be worn at a cocktail party on a rooftop bar? We love the one shoulder style dress and all you need is a great pair of gold heels (these are from BHLDN) and some Stella & Dot dangling earrings

French Summer Stripes

It's really starting to warm up out there, so we found a cool and casual look for you to rock this summer. We were in the mood for stripes because we'd like to be cooling off in the South of France, but we're sitting in America. Sigh. Anyways, we hope this dress makes your summer day feel cooler. The entire look is just about $50!

A Little Luck for '11

The Class of 2011 graduated this morning and we can't help but feel sad at the thought that they're leaving Wake Forest. We hope they do amazing things in the world and that they always proudly claim Mother, So Dear as their alma mater. We wish them luck in all that they do - so a little horseshoe necklace in honor of their new post-grad experiences.

Graduation Gift Ideas

Parents, family and friends of Class of 2011 grads - check out some of Chic Deac's gift ideas for graduation. Graduation is such a bittersweet time, but you can make it all the sweeter with some great gifts that will help the new alums keep Wake Forest in their hearts forever.

Demon and Deacon wine from the Reynolda Village Deacon Shop would be an excellent choice. We once saw someone write a personalized note on a wine bottle in metallic paint pen. This makes the bottle a keepsake in itself and a great accessory (or vase) for a post-grad apartment.

This monogrammed Max & Chloe necklace won't break the bank, but it will be appreciated as a classic gift. Get it in 14k gold to remind them of Mother, So Dear.

West Avenue Jewelry Monogram Disk Necklace

A classic tote is a great gift for any woman entering the working world, but why not have a Wake Forest twist with black and gold hues? We love the dipped leather look on this tote and think that it's a worthy investment. A Tory Burch tote will surely last your grad a while, or at least until they have a bigger paycheck to buy their own replacement.

Everyone has to write thank you notes when they receive gifts, and what better to write it on that customized Lilly stationary?

Say it in Code

We LOVE this necklace design, featured on Cup of Jo this week and sent in by a fabulous reader. These Morse Code Necklaces from the First Date Boutique are adorable. Spelling out words like love, amore, friend and sister, they make the perfect gift for a friend, mom or sorority sister. Mother's Day gift, anyone?? Buy them here.

Keeping Time

We don't need watches to tell us the time anymore, but they sure are a stylish accessory. The Tourista Watch with a black strap is not for the faint of heart. We love the clunky charms and the ability to wear it in different ways - it goes with a cocktail dress or jeans and a t-shirt.

Reynolda Film Festival

Chic Deac is going to this year's Reynolda Film Festival. Are you? We're definitely going to see Jason Reitman (director of Juno and Thank You for Smoking) in Wait Chapel on Saturday night and we'll probably be seeking refuge from this rainy weather by checking out some of the other films in the lineup. So what to wear for the RFF? We think keeping it dressy casual will help you stand out ... wearing a regular ole outfit will just be boring. This is the closest Wake Forest gets to a Hollywood red carpet, after all. Our pick for a Reynolda Film Festival look is above. Obsession best describes our feelings towards that bracelet.

Thanks to the organizers of this amazing event. Can't wait to see the product of your hard work!
